Parque Zaragoza Neighborhood Park Pool & Bathhouse Caretaker Cottage Updates

Jen Massing Harris, President, Co-organizer, Parque Zaragoza Neighborhood Assn. & Park Group
This last weekend, a couple of us co-organizers are working on an Austin Parks Foundation Community Grant application for Canopy Shading for the Pool and Deck area.

Last July, we met with the City of Austin Park and Recreation Aquatics Department’s Director to discuss our pool’s masterplan and timeline.

During our meeting it was shared that the Aquatics Department has started the building damage assessment necessary to begin renovation plans for the bathhouse/caretakers cottage (built in 1933), which was later expanded by the National Youth Association and community volunteers in 1941 to become a two-room recreation center until 1996.

If you are didn’t live in the neighborhood prior to ’96, you might not have known the condemned building by the pool used to be the Parque Zaragoza Recreation Center.

I’ve found some photos to share that date back to the construction of the pool and bathhouse/caretaker cottage, recreation center additions, as well as children at Halloween time in the early '90s.
